In the 1870s, Dr. Edward Livingston Trudeau came to the Adirondacks in search of a cure for his own case of tuberculosis. He settled in Saranac Lake and established the first successful sanatorium in the U.S. for the treatment of the disease, as well as the first research laboratory. For 70 years, the small community in the Adirondacks thrived as a center for patient care and science.

Amy Catania, the Executive Director of Historic Saranac Lake, will discuss Saranac Lake's history, and the people involved, in light of today's pandemic, highlighting issues of continuity and change in public health.
