Join us for an afternoon of romantic woodwinds
Tune in for the second edition of the third season of the Sounds in Winter concert series. On February 14, Brookside welcomes A Touch of Woodwinds, who will play music for Valentine's Day. Enjoy the performance of this classical group within the wonderful acoustics of our historic Long Room.
A Touch of Woodwinds Quintet is composed of performing members of the Schenectady-Saratoga Symphony Orchestra. The leader of the group is Tom Gerbino, who will be performing on the clarinet. Tom is a well-known musician in the Capital Region who regularly performs in numerous groups and pits. He is also the conductor of the summer Gloversville Civic Band and currently teaches at RPI and SCCC. Flautist Heather Chan plays in the Gloversville Band and also is an accomplished violinist who has played as the Concertmaster of the Music Company Orchestra and in the violin section of the Schenectady-Saratoga Orchestra. French Horn Player Sue Wheeler maintains an active studio in the area. Bassoonist Ed Marschilok retired from the NYS Education Department where he oversaw musical education across New York State. He has been involved in the Empire State Orchestra and the New York State School Music Association and also performs in many area groups. Susan Kokernak, oboe, is a Band teacher in the Niskayuna School District. She also appears with numerous groups in the area.
The Quintet's repertoire is vast and utilizes music from the Renaissance (ie Morley), Baroque (ie. Bach), Classical (ie. Mozart), Romantic (ie. Grieg), Impressionistic (ie. Debussy), Contemporary (ie. Hindemith), and Pops era (ie. Mancini). Their performance might just contain some Valentine's Day repertoire!
These concerts are sponsored jointly by The Ballston Spa Committee on the Arts, and The Saratoga County History Center with funding provided by The American Federation of Musicians Music Performance Trust Fund and a grant from Saratoga Arts. All events are free of charge.
